See details about Just Crushing at https://justcrushing.art/.
Just Crushing is a public art project where teens from Eastern Iowa design and decorate derby cars inspired by major political issues that matter to them—mental health, climate change, and more. Then, in a specially dedicated heat at the Muscatine County Fair's Demolition Derby, drivers crash those issue-themed cars for a cheering crowd. Created through a summer camp blending civic education with art-making, Just Crushing transforms polarized politics into a shared spectacle of destruction, catharsis, and creativity. The project centers teen voices and turns destruction into a platform for dialogue—not division.
In addition to the BFF, Just Crushing is supported by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council, made possible by the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Kirkwood Regional Center, Lenoch & Cilek ACE Hardware, as well as many friends and family who contributed to the Just Crushing crowdfunding campaign.
