about “Fuerzas de Papel”
During the last year, 2024-25 BFF Project Grantee Narciso Meneses Elizalde collaborated with Ñuhu bädi (ritual specialists) as part of the group Revitalizadores del Papel. The collaborators spent time together documenting present practices, lived experiences, and cultural expressions to eventually share their project, La Fuerza del Papel Amate, in Eastern Iowa. Both the project and the documentary center around the revitalization of traditional amate papermaking practices and the implementation of amate paper by Ñuhu (Otomi) Indigenous ritual specialists in the Otomi-Tepehua Highlands, Mexico, and beyond.

Following the screening, there will be a Q&A to further discuss the project and collaboration. Find out more and watch the trailer here!

Support for this work is provided by Big Field Fund (BFF), a program of Public Space One. Funding is provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
